New Year Special – The Dragon Fly

31 December – Well here we are, another year has gone by, we’ve seen great tragedies like the Boston bombings and the passing of the truly great Nelson Mandela, but we have also seen the triumph of the human spirit. We have seen acts of defiance against governments, like those of Edward Snowdon and those in Syria. We have seen new popes, seen terror attacks like those in Boston and the more recent ones in Russia.

However for me, the passing of this year and the memories from it should not be dwelt on, but rather we should look to the future and see how we can change the world, by reducing poverty or AIDS, but for me, personally, my wish for the next year to simply be a better person, and of cause make better pictures!

The image above is of a dragon fly, photographed this summer in Germany. For those who have photographed these insects, you know how difficult it is to photograph them flying, and so therefore photographing them sitting somewhere is by far more rewarding.

Just a quick quote to end the year: ‘There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.’ – Ansel Adams

Have a great new year!
