Eight Expression College Graduates Contributed their Animation and VFX Talents to Oscar-Nominated Films

Eight graduates of Ex’pression College, one of America’s premier creative media colleges, worked on films that were nominated for Oscars at this year’s 87th Academy Awards ceremony, which was held on February 22.

The films included:

BEST ANIMATION:


    Omar Garcia ‘09 – “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (technical resource administrator, uncredited)
    Hubert Leo ’08 – “Big Hero 6” (associate technical animation supervisor)
    Jorge Heredia ‘07 – “The Boxtrolls” (digital paint and roto paint artist)
    Kane Brassington ’02 – “The Boxtrolls” (stereo paint fix artist)
    Curtis Zinn ‘09 – “The Boxtrolls” (roto paint artist)

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS (VFX):

    Sam Baker ‘04 – “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”
    Dan Kunz ’11 – “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”

In addition to the above Ex’pression alumni accomplishments, Stephen Urata ’11 was the assistant re-recording mixer for two Oscar-nominated films: “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”.
